Accommodations in proceedings

Tell us what a participant needs and we will arrange it. Common accommodations include American Sign Language interpreters, Communication Access Realtime Translation for participants who are deaf or hard of hearing, assistive listening equipment, wheelchair accessible facilities, additional breaks, extended scheduling for participants who fatigue, and large print or electronically accessible exhibits.

Please raise accommodation needs when you set the proceeding rather than on the day, so that the right equipment and the right personnel are booked. There is a field for this on the scheduling form, and you can always call a coordinator to discuss it directly.

Where a request comes to us late, we will still do everything we can. Some accommodations depend on the availability of specialised personnel, and earlier notice materially improves the outcome.

This website

We have built this site to be usable with assistive technology and aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 at level AA. That includes the following.

• Semantic headings and landmarks so that a screen reader can navigate the structure of each page
• A skip link to move directly to the main content
• Text alternatives for images and decorative graphics marked as decorative
• Colour contrast tested against the level AA thresholds for body and interface text
• Full keyboard operability, including the navigation menu and all form controls
• Visible focus indication on interactive elements
• Labels associated with every form field rather than placeholder text alone
• Layout that reflows without horizontal scrolling down to narrow screen widths
• Text that remains readable when enlarged in the browser

Known limitations

Accessibility is a continuing obligation rather than a finished state. Where we become aware of a barrier on this site, we record it, fix it, and note it here if a fix will take time.
